Robert J. Poth
President


Robert is a resourceful individual who strives to deliver architectural and environmental quality and cost efficiency for all projects. He offers more than 40 years of experience in construction.
He is responsible for all project operations and is experienced in construction management, design-build, general contracting, construction and real estate development. Since 1988 with the formation of Metate Construction, Inc., he has completed in excess of sixteen million dollars of construction contracts.
Thirty-five of his 40 years of experience in real estate development, construction and design-build took place in Austin. He has provided cost consulting for projects related to The University of Texas, Farmers Insurance Group, Texas A&M and the Austin Doctor’s Building.
Robert’s diverse construction background began when he was 19 years old in petro-chemical refinery construction. Since then, his experience has expanded to include retail, office buildings, department stores, schools, post office, warehouses, tilt-wall, pre-engineered metal buildings, multi-family housing, medical office buildings, manufacturing facilities, restaurants and interior construction.
He is the recipient of the Austin Business Journal Retail Project of the Year Award and the AIA San Antonio Chapter Citation Award for the Colonial Bank, Austin, Texas branch bank.
Robert is a decision maker and a leader who has been self employed since he was 23. He is an inventor and holds five patents and has others currently pending for his energy saving thermost, LocStat.

Kay brings more than 23 years of professional experience to her role as COO.  She is particularly skilled at managing contracts, negotiating contract terms and conditions, and supervising vendor/subcontractor collaborative relationships.  Her duties include assisting with contract development, administration, tracking, and analysis, as well as communication of vendor/subcontractor performance and contract compliance. In addition, Kay coordinates and manages Metate’s HUB compliance program.

She is proficient in contract development, contract standards, and language.  Kay is involved in the review of modifications, extensions and contract closeout documents.  She monitors vendor/subcontractor performance and makes recommendations for improvement when appropriate.  Kay also coordinates with all levels of management to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations on sourcing strategies, practices and procedures.

Kay managed the contract administration and accounting on two Sovereign Bank projects, one at 600 W. 5th Street in Austin and 150 S. Bell in Cedar Park.  She worked with the City of Austin staff to facilitate the agreement between the City of Austin and Sovereign Bank, coordinating Great Streets Project requirements, managing the UNO requirements related to the Sigma Phi Epsilon project, and coordinating the Green Building program to get all projects closed out with the City of Austin after project completion.  

From 1993 until 2006, Kay managed the Acacia Building, a 40,000-square-foot office building in San Antonio for the owner, 7551 Ltd. Kay was also the managing member of the LLC that was the managing general partner for 7551 Ltd.  As the managing member, she managed the assets for this property with an estimated value of $3,500,000 and was responsible for negotiating and finalizing all leases and contracts on behalf of the owner.   In December 2009,  Kay, through her company, Poth Associates, Inc. (PAI)  listed, marketed, and sold the Acacia Building for the partnership.   Kay also served as asset manager of Park Terrace Office Building, another multi-million dollar asset at 1301 West 25th, Austin, Texas from 1986 until its sale in 1991.

In 2000, Kay was instrumental in developing a marketing and management program for VENTANA, a 40-unit, luxury, multi-family project in Austin.  Kay assisted in the planning and design process, and served as the asset manager until 2005.  In 2006,  Kay directed the conversion of VENTANA into luxury condominiums and through her company, PAI, was the listing broker for sales in excess of $7 million.

Kay is a 4th-generation Texan and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, summa cum laude.
